The building is located in the Gothic quarter in the old city of Barcelona. It is close to the famous Ramblas, the cathedral and the port.

The property is on two levels. On the first, a bathroom with basin, toilet and 2 showers, a single sleeping space, access to a patio with table, chairs and plants, and a large living room.

The spacious 645 sq ft lounge is sunny and bright with its 3 large windows (2 with balconies). There are 4 areas in this room; a seating area with sofa, armchairs, coffee table, then a dining area with a huge table, a desk area and finally a kitchen with a staircase leading to the mezzanine which has a sofa-bed that is comfortable for 2 people. The mezzanine leads to a bedroom with a double bed. This room has a view of the hallway and a skylight.

This loft of 170 m2 is located in a building built in Barcelona over a century ago, which was previously textile workshop. This space has kept most of the original structures and attractive unified space, all painted them white: wrought iron columns to ceiling originally black-and-run lengthwise environment, wooden beams, cut by a steel rail and the 4 meters mark open architecture.

Natural light, one of the key points of this house comes from a wall-hung windows, mostly original, ensuring that all day.

At the entrance of the house, we have a hall access via a lift in which highlights the glass railing offering a sober and clean aesthetic appearance. Thanks to this distribution and the use of these elements the natural light penetrates through the yard.

LIVING ROOM

Spacious room in which has been designed a large window that brings freshness and breadth to the room. The decorative elements are distributed from the reddish-brown to beige to complement the paintings of the artist Mercedes Rodriguez, helping to make a distinctive note, creating a hybrid between the tones.

It can be seen as light in limelight at the center of the room provides some privacy for its indirect character.

DINING-ROOM

We move toward the most public area of the house where the dining room is located, surrounded by paintings by Mercedes Rodriguez, and supplemented below by the Capri console. These establish a division of the room into two parts and also provide strength and dynamism to the environment.

The table, with clear glass on CAPRI model with steel high brightness from A-cero In, brings serenity to the room. The carpet, that combines with sand and red tones of the painting, achieves the balance of the room.

KITCHEN

Designed by A-cero to MOBALCO, it is important to highligh  theuse of straight lines and its interesting conjugation made of sand tones with white. The ceiling lit with halogen contributes to a clean and clear enviroment.

The plot where the project is located has a notorious slope that goes down to the South from the street access. This fact would determinate the design to adapt the house to the environment and achieve excellent views of the Mediterranean Sea. The possibilities of the plot and the wishes of the property appear in the execution of this huge project.

The floor is rectangular and places the most used spaces to the south façade in order to enjoy the views. Here is where the plot is open to the outside.

The north façade, where is located the access to the house, is more sober but forceful from an architectonic point of view, with walls and plans crossed and cut. There is a path with geometric forms covered with a layer of water that goes to the main door. The windows are secondary on the aesthetics of the house, but really important to give light to the corridors, distributors or common spaces.

All the rooms, both public and private, are located in the rear part of the house, with the porch, the pool, the garden and a tennis court. In this part of the house, orientated to the south, the black glass windows are bigger to connect the outside with the inside, like the big one in the living room that hides in the floor automatically.

The greatest part, in architectonic terms, is the big volume over the porch where stays the main bedroom on the first floor.

The property is “dressed” with Roman transventilated travertine stone.

Inside, the house has wide spaces, all of them modeled by natural light.

The property is developed in three levels:

The low floor is the most public space and includes the living-room, kitchen, dining room, laundry and a little service room.

The first floor is the most private area and here we can find the bedrooms and a little office.

The ground floor is dedicated to a relax area, with a spa, an internal pool, gym and garage. The large central courtyards that articulate the property core give light to this level of the house.

Totaling 227.25 sq. meters this special home is divided into two levels plus a basement where there is a private exercise pool, washer and dryer. The ground floor includes a spacious living-dining room with a kitchen enclosed in glass, a bedroom and a bath. The top level is a spacious open area with the master bedroom and bath.

The kitchen is minimalist, equipped with built-in appliances and storage. A wooden table with transparent chairs for six is an open invite to guests.

Even though the décor features the typical Spanish national coloring, thereâ€s nothing typical about this loft. Thatâ€s not because itâ€s unusually striking in terms of furniture, colors or materials but because itâ€s a loft full of art. The designers managed to find a way to combine functionality with style without compromising one or the other. The result was this extremely functional apartment with a great sense of style.

The loft is divided into two volumes. The first part includes the living room, the kitchen and the dining room, in other words the public spaces of the apartment. The other volume houses the bedroom. As for the structure and the materials used, the loft features a combination of concrete and metal complimented by a colorful interior and vintage furniture.

The most interesting part is the artistic side of this loft. The walls are covered with portraits, pictures and all sorts of other decorations. They vary from playful to dramatic and they cover not just the walls but basically the whole loft.

Reading Corner

The owner

One of the most stylish men of Madrid. Jaime Lacasa has taken his passion for decorating their iconic menswear boutiques, Scooter and Jimmy’s Scooter (Callejon de Jorge Juan 14 and Villalar 11) the most chic of Madrid. There reign vintage furniture and objects can also be purchased. The photo shows several pieces in the hall of his house that opens to the kitchen and workspace.

Contrasts

The delicacy of the original moldings, recovered with care, in contrast to the scrap pieces pressed and painted iron.

Rest area

A cozy corner with chaise-longue, LA Studio, and pad, Antennae. Behind, a spectacular wood and iron console of Anmoder. Along with the items purchased on different trips, sculptures, chandeliers and wooden plate of Batavia.

Dual Grid

Through the glass enclosure will appreciate the large bottom shelf, made to measure. On the sofa, upholstered in linen and cotton, to the left of the image, and Suzani Filocolore cushion in shades of yellow, Becara. Next, tamarind wood table, of Batavia; lamp, Barbarenia.

Meeting Point

In the kitchen, table, Barbarenia, with a striking set of chairs: the colors are of 50, Karl Jacobs, the fabric bag is Jimmy’s Scooter and the iron is recovered by the owner. On the wall board, console and meters, Jimmy’s Scooter, and vase, LA Studio.

Industrial atmosphere

Industrial atmosphere is the main hallmark of this bright kitchen, open space and connected to almost every room in the house.

Bathroom

In the bathroom, old marble combined with Japanese paper, of Gaston and Daniela.Trash of Cucamona, and towels, Antennae. On the bed, blanket, Texture, blanket, Indietro and smooth pads, C & C, and stripes, Becara. Chest parchment, LA Studio, carpet, Carpet Reloaded, chair and console, Jimmy’s Scooter, and lamps of Barbarenia.

Separating spaces

The wall hides the dressing area and visually reinforces the sense of vertical height of the roof.

The reform

Jaime decided to transform a house completely compartmentalized in a spacious apartment, open, connected and stays very personal décor.

The decor is attention to details, and any hidden corner of the house beautiful and elegant surprises.

High ceilings

The high ceilings were key when Jaime was decided to buy the house:

The first thing I liked about it was the height of the ceilings, very important, 4 feet and beak, in that if I pay a lot, is what gives me a greater sense of luxury and space.

Radical change

The reform is the work of the decorator Geli Perez Gomez, who faced a radical change in the house.

The duplex apartment was in a very bad condition before the A-ceroâ€s improvements, so it was necessary to make a radical alteration

A-cero bets on white as the main color in the apartment in order to get the maximum light and spaciousness. Bright colors are only for decoration pieces like paintings.

This authentic home belongs to Barbara Aurell,  designer at Espacio en Blanco (White Space), the concept of whiteness being sustained by her own house. It is situated in the neighborhood of Garcia de Barcelona and its main objective was that of taking advantage of the 70 m2 space on two heights and, at the same time, of the natural space offered by the entrance window. The 20 m2 yard gives clarity, the space offering a harmonious line from the entrance to the living area and creating a pleasant atmosphere that makes you feel at ease.

The general air is that of an industrial loft with white walls, but without loosing the character of home. The interior provides an intelligent combination of vintage and modern decorative objects that reveal the personality of the owner (the sofa, the chaise longue are only a few details that contribute to the general character.)

The light definitely occupies an important place, offering a distinctive ambient (both the natural light and the light offered by the lamps).The whiteness of the walls makes everything seem more spacious, while the shades of red and the contrast with black add a tone of personality to the house.
