This project in Montreal by Jean-Maxime Labrecque certainly has a few unique twists, but what sets it apart from similar interiors is, in part, the fact that most photos show someone actually occupying the spaces.

In some cases, this shows off neat functionality, like a sleek metal surfacing concealing a huge and useful walk-in close, or what it might be like to sit at this table or lean on that counter.

In others, it perhaps reveals more than the architect wished to share – how uncomfortable those benches might be, or the comfortable nature vs. awkwardness of bending over to get something out of certain cabinets.

Wright House – old and new https://www.loftenberg.com/wright-house/ https://www.loftenberg.com/wright-house/#respond Sat, 18 Jun 2011 08:21:53 +0000 Wright House was designed by Elmo Swart Architects and is located in Durban, South Africa. The project involved an addition to a three bedroom traditional cottage which included two studies, a new bedroom, an entertainment space and an art gallery. The extension is highly modern, has a fluid form and features large windows which ensure beautiful views of the lush natural environment. Seen on designboom, this home mixes old and new in a truly spectacular way, making it hard for anyone to remain indifferent when confronting with this design. The art gallery was built as a transparent tunnel connecting the entrance to the valley on the opposite site. An original cantilevered volume generates a parking space below, large enough for two cars. The interiors are as interesting as the facade would suggest.

Young Family Residence https://www.loftenberg.com/young-family-residence/ https://www.loftenberg.com/young-family-residence/#respond Thu, 10 Mar 2011 20:45:48 +0000 The Frame house, designed by Marc Boutin is situated in the lovely British Columbia, In Canada. The lovely house is set in a natural landscape which is ideal for a family of five. Most of the design strategy includes using of solar power to stick by its natural / minimalistic theme. The landscape consists of forests and mountains which is a truly ideal setting.Natural colors of brown and white form most part of the interior and exterior. The front side has large screen windows to have maximum impact of scenic beauty. The best part is a small box with the house – which is like a house in itself –with kids rooms and service areas. Overall the house is very spacious and good looking. It is a perfect getaway or a permanent residence.

Wynkoop Loft https://www.loftenberg.com/wynkoop-loft/ https://www.loftenberg.com/wynkoop-loft/#respond Fri, 04 Mar 2011 21:49:50 +0000 https://www.loftenberg.com/?p=2584 This great-looking loft in Denver, Colorado was designed to reflect the owner’s passion for automobiles. The designer who handled this design is Beaton Design. The challenge was to create a comfortable space that would reflect a strong passion for exotic automobiles in its lines, form and detailing.

The apartment also features unusual walls that divide the space into six well defined living areas. Glass additions contribute to the overall contemporary feel and aesthetics of the loft. Modern and unexpected forms are at the basis of beautiful apartment design. Throughout this crib, one can observe eccentric decorative items, decadent fabrics and contracts of great visual effects. The living room is spacious and airy, with large windows, a perfect interior for working or socializing. We were particularly intrigued by the design of the entertaining area which can serve as a good source of inspiration.

Barney Living https://www.loftenberg.com/barney-living/ https://www.loftenberg.com/barney-living/#respond Fri, 14 Jan 2011 20:24:12 +0000 https://www.loftenberg.com/?p=1170

The restoration of an early twentieth-century barn in Val Tidone, Italy led to this characteristic project combining traditional and contemporary architecture. A typical farmhouse has been transformed into a holiday home without radically altering its original form.

A simple architectural style has been chosen to successfully respond to the needs of a large family. The horizontal and vertical connection of the surfaces are enhanced by the glass covered passageway-cum-yard and the particular design of the staircase (a key element of the project) which together provide a sense of continuity between the interior spaces.

Light is abundant from the wall-to-wall windows, and exposes the brick the barn is built from on every wall. It’s an explosion of old charm founded only in places like this one.

The reuse of local materials together with innovative technical features from the insulation and natural ventilation systems to the intricate heating system of stoves and chimneys enable this project to resolve the requirements for all-season living.

The winter woodshed is the only new construction on the site which is entirely clad in wood.

Refinement and Comfort in a Beautiful Home Overlooking Lake Austin https://www.loftenberg.com/refinement-and-comfort-in-a-beautiful-home-overlooking-lake-austin/ https://www.loftenberg.com/refinement-and-comfort-in-a-beautiful-home-overlooking-lake-austin/#respond Sun, 09 Jan 2011 16:47:40 +0000 The Peninsula Residence was designed by Bercy Chen Studio and has a privileged location that allows beautiful vies of Lake Austin, Texas. You are looking at a makeover of an 1980’s home which initially did not take advantage of the positive features of its environment. Here are a few words from the architects: “The challenge was to develop a sensitive and inventive result out of a pre-existing condition. Through the use of glass, steel, detailing and light the home has been adaptively reinvented. Reflection, translucency, color and geometry conspire to bring natural light deep into the house. A new solarium, pool, and vegetative roof are tuned to interact with the natural context. Exterior materials and refined detailing of the roof structure give the volume clean lines and a bold presence, while abstracting the form of the original dormers and gable roof.” The interior design is diverse, with plenty of inspiring details. A generous pool contributes to the overall game of form that this residence plays and offers a unique relaxation spot right next to the lake.
