This loft of 115 sq. meters located in the heart of Kyiv, Ukraine. A project is executed in style of loft with the use of great number of characteristic elements. An apartment is in new building in the center of city.

The architects’ starting point was to create a loft for a gentleman, rather than a hipster. Martin Architects came up with a bold design that’s not for the shy and retiring. A glass paned wall partly conceals a bedroom from the main living space, which faces an open kitchen, with a fire set ingeniously into its units.

The bold space is adorned with raw brick, cement and wood alongside refreshing designer furniture pieces. A wall of plants framed by reclaimed wood adds both a witty touch and greenery to a dining area. Colours throughout are masculine greys and browns, with yellow accents in rugs and lights, while exposed concrete forms the backdrop to an adventurously-styled bathroom.

The most important feature of this Kyiv Loft is furniture and elements of decor, which were made Ukrainian masters, companies and designers. Furniture of Igor Martin, developed for a company HIS (Home Ideas Supply), made debut in this project. The apartment is also a smart house; everything can be done through a smartphone.

The Arts District loft is home, workshop and office in one, the latter function has been gradually formed out of the dining room table and its surroundings. Every item in the loft was part of the owners’ former’s homes – salvaged objects, antiques.

Kristan and Scott have a great eye for style, even their business idea supposedly came from guests often trying to buy an item or two….

The building is located in the Gothic quarter in the old city of Barcelona. It is close to the famous Ramblas, the cathedral and the port.

The property is on two levels. On the first, a bathroom with basin, toilet and 2 showers, a single sleeping space, access to a patio with table, chairs and plants, and a large living room.

The spacious 645 sq ft lounge is sunny and bright with its 3 large windows (2 with balconies). There are 4 areas in this room; a seating area with sofa, armchairs, coffee table, then a dining area with a huge table, a desk area and finally a kitchen with a staircase leading to the mezzanine which has a sofa-bed that is comfortable for 2 people. The mezzanine leads to a bedroom with a double bed. This room has a view of the hallway and a skylight.

You find everything about the proverbial loft here: industrial vibe, high ceilings, raw exposed brick walls. The browns and oranges are wonderfully coordinated, the place oozes warmth and friendliness.

Look out for the quirky details – the mixed geometric-patterned cement-tiles that had been coming back for the last year, as well as the painted (and hopefully sealed) bricks in the bathroom.

Kitchen cabinets in stainless steel and smoked glass have steel handles and internal drawers with dividers for different cutlery, dishes, etc door and groceries. The wardrobe has interior lighting, leather hangers, drawers colorless glass, cushioning and hidden drawers for jewelry. The bed is covered in white leather with a High Gloss Marine headboard.

The bench-work table, topped in High Gloss Ebony, works as a room divider and comes with leather handles and small niches for books.

This former church in Haarlo, the Netherlands has been transformed into a unique loft. The starting point for the design were the retained (mostly with a need for restoration) qualities of the 1928 dating monument; the façade, the bell tower with clock, the volume, the iconic location on the outskirts of the village and nice details like the wooden roof construction, the old panel doors and arch windows with leaded glass.

This project demonstrates that a transformation of a church with limited resources is possible, when using a smart design and an efficient plan. The concept was; strip, isolate and furnish. The execution represents the motto of the owners: “Cherish your inner child; remain pure, playing, exploring and a little bit naughty!”

It was a conscious choice, not to fill the volume of 1100 m3 completely with as many rooms as possible, but to minimize the demands, in order to retain the spaciousness of the building. The only architectural additions are the mezzanine for the relaxation room (couch, bed and bath) and the multifunctional “stairway to have fun” (stairs, room divider, closet, kitchen, acoustic element and exhibition wall).

The used materials are pure, sober, functional and budgetary; concrete on the floor, the original wooden floorboards from the church as cladding for the “stairway to have fun”, stainless steel kitchen elements, a hard glass partition to retain openness, white stucco for making the space light inside and strategically chosen red accents.

This project shows great passion, humor, respect, love and creativity. This is being reflected in the, specially for this project realized, elements like the swing “swinging sister”, the “KROONluchter” (inspired by the original organ), the “gate of heaven” flanked by a wall of guardian angels, the “stairway to have fun”, the “holy shit” on the toilet, birdhouses with lamp for strange birds that have seen the light and the wooden “lost sheep” in the garden.

The modern garden has large plastered planters, made by left-over-bricks. There is a herb garden, a vegetable garden, a flower garden and an orchard; a contemporary nod to the old monastery gardens. The outside shed with a porch is a 40ft container, integrated into the wooden fence and equipped with a green roof. By deepening the garden, a private garden is created yet still a view at the church is remained intact.

This project by LKSVDD Architects is an exemplary example of architectural transformation and sustainable conservation of religious heritage.

This massive building has undergone quite a transformation since its industrial origin in the 1960s. Holgaard Architects did a fantastic job breathing new life in to the striking apartments contained within – our favorite color, of course, is a prominent feature.

Notice how the sparsely lit rooms are bathed with glossy surfaces. Nothing is so reflective that it catches glare from artificial lighting, but the largest surfaces have just enough shine to brighten the space in a snap.

Some rooms are more “finished” in appearance than others are but, even the most thoroughly sleek modern interiors take cues from this building’s past with architecturally influenced furnishings.

A dysfunctional condo in a former industrial building has been transformed into a modern oasis, a second home for a busy international couple. The existing industrial elements have been exposed, celebrating the history of the space. What was formerly a chopped-up and segmented space has been opened to the expanse of industrial-style factory windows, bathing the space in natural light. Designated spaces are defined with furnishings, as opposed to walls. Throughout, custom furnishings and storage keeps clutter out of site. Special care was taken to ensure sprinkler heads, audio-visual and electrical wiring, and switching were invisible, creating a flawless environment.

A divider, housing both the media center and platform bed, separates the living space from the bedroom, without creating a barrier. The media center, custom designed by Studio Santalla allows for the Television to be concealed when not in use. A comfortable black leather sectional from B&B Italia sits atop a custom designed mosaic cowhide area rug. Though few, the iconic furnishings provide soft relief from the industrial space.

A custom, eat-in kitchen integrates the appliances and the cabinetry, keeping messes out of site.  The sleek workspace provides a home for a sculpture from Keith Milow. A space-defining wood and glass desk provides a workspace for two, and a pedestal for a bold sculpture from Nelson Carrilho. A massive painting from Keith Milow provides a stunning backdrop to this home office.

The large walk in closet includes a counter for folding clothes.  The custom minimal cabinetry has been designed to house off-the-shelf closet organization from the Container Store. The sleek bathroom space is bookended by a frosted glass watercloset and a dark tiled shower.
