The beautiful elements of this home have been highlighted, whilst more functional pieces take a step back. For instance, take note of how the quirky asymmetrical vases appear to drip from the modern artwork above the console, which blends with the color matched wall behind it, or how the run of huge storage cupboards are almost invisible along one wall in white gloss and slim-line chrome handles.

With an eye for detail, Andreev has matched the Barcelona chairs with identically quilted light shades, and the expanse of plain white kitchen cabinets is broken by interesting use of textured slabs amongst standard flat finish fronts.

The deep wood treads of the staircase gives 3D effect to a glossy white edge, causing a graphical zigzag shape that is echoed by the modular storage units around the flat screen TV. The stairs appear to float beneath the clear glass balustrade towards a large sofa with adjustable sides and back rests, which fold out to transform the use of space, perfect for the sociable open plan nature of the scheme.

Its present appearance is tasteful and inspiring, which is why we decided to showcase it on Freshome. The apartment has no less than 700 square feet and is structured as follows: an open plan living room with dining and kitchen area, a transparent bedroom, a large hallway, dressing room and two bathrooms. The layout approach is daring, as the architect decided to go for an open, connected space, welcoming socializing. However, the living, kitchen and bedroom areas are cleverly delimited through the use of colors, textures and glass accordingly. Floor to ceiling windows ensure a large degree of natural light inside the loft.

I especially like the separation of the bedroom with the glass wall and curtains – what better way to divide space when you don’t have much of it?

CUBE Architecten designed this distinctive loft located on the first floor of a historic warehouse in the center of Amsterdam.

When they found the monument it was still in use as a warehouse, as two separate long and dark rooms of 100 square meter each. They bought the place and hoped the council would let them change the status to “dwelling”, which they did after all the plans were submitted. So in 2008 the old warehouse has been completely transformed to a 200 square meter luxury loft.

The wall between the two rooms has been opened up, and in the architecture a contrast has been sought between preserving the historic beams and floors, and minimalistic new additions. The new additions such as kitchen and bathroom would be clearly identifiable as such in terms of materiality and form. Because it is a deep and relatively low space, and letting daylight in is therefore very important, an open floor plan is chosen. The open floor plan also fits the idea of the autonomous designed additions to the ancient monument.

The bathroom is the central element in the house situated at the intersection of public and private. The rounded translucent bathroom-wall consists of nearly 1.000 very special glass blocks and acts as a subtle light-object at night next to the dining table. They actually are IKEA vases that are painted white from the inside, and glued together with transparent glue.

Leave it natural and untouched: Out of all of the construction materials to build with, brick is one of the few that can be left untouched and still remain beautiful after generations of wear and tear. Exterior brick walls are loved in neighborhoods where tradition and maturity have been preserved over the years. Use brick as a back drop: For a clean and sophisticated look, use brick as a backdrop for wall art, paintings, and sculptures. Tie a gypsum board finished wall together with an adjacent brick wall with crown molding to meld the finishes together. Brick can be used as an accent wall or it can be paired with other exposed materials to give a room a rustic yet contemporary feel.  The more brick joints are exposed, the more rustic and loose the aesthetic will feel. Depending on how formal you are, there is a brick layout and texture to suit your style.

Brick interiors can brighten up a room, or even transform the modern into a historically rich space with the use of this versatile material.
